President Gerald R. Ford
P-94
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, D.C.
Dear Mr. President:
In these trying times we thought that the attached cartoon and
comments would be appropos. I think it would be an excellent
idea to establish the new country of "Western United States".
Of course, you would be President, with the White House in no
other spot than in Vail, Colorado!
Incidentally, my wife's maiden name is Gwen van Eerden. Her
grandfather lost his job in the House of Representatives in 1948
to a young upstart named Gerald Ford. I'm sure you remember his
name, Barney Jonkman.
I hope someday to meet you skiing at Vail.
Cordially,
