WHITE HOUSE,
WASHINGTON.
January 9, 1904.
Personal.
My dear Secretary Hitchcock:
I have your letter of January 7th, which I have shown
to Senator Quay. He says that the difficulty is not met
by the failure to give any hearing at present. At the
earnest request of the Delawares he desires to be present
at the hearing, at which the Delawares (and if possible
the Cherokees) shall be represented and the whole case gone
into. I have agreed with Senator Quay that there shall be
a hearing a week from Monday next at 2:30 p .m.
Senator
Quay will notify the Delawares. I hope you will put your-
self in communication with him and kindly arrange to be
present yourself with any of your officials whom you think
necessary, including especially Commissioner Jones. I will
then go thoroughly into this segregation business.
Sincerely yours,
Jheodore Rosevels
Hon. E. A. Hitchcock,
Secretary of the Interior.
