My dear Sir:
The President directs me to ask that you send
him a report upon the case of Mr. John W. Minto, who
is an applicant for appointment as an inspector in
the office of the Surveyor General.
I enclose herewith a communication from Senator
Mitchell and other papors in behalf of Mr. Minto.
