My dear Mr. Secretary:
The President directs me to send to you the en-
closed papers from Senators Ankeny and Piles in behalf
of the appointment of Mr. A. J. Gillis as Register of
the Land Office at Walla Walla, Wash. and the appoint-
ment of Mr. Jesse G. Miller as Receiver of the Land
Office at the same place, and to ask if there is any
objection on the part of your Department to sending in
these nominations
