To the President.
Canton, Ohio
Sir:
I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 9th instant,
stating that you are instructed by the President to request the Department "to
send him, when the appointment is due, a commission for Mr. Nathan H. Alexander
(colored) of Montgomery, Alabama, for Receiver of Public Moneys at that place.'
I would be pleased to be informed whether the commission is desired now or at
the expiration of the term of the present incumbent, January 12 next.
