My dear Sir:
The enclosed communication from Senator 0. H.
Platt is forwarded to you by direction of the President
who requests me to ask that you send him a full and
detailed report upon the case of W. H. Smead, re-
citing what was done concerning the charge of gam-
bling and regarding the charge about his nephew.
The President also desires to have the report of the
inspector on which favorable action was taken.
