Dear Mr. Cortelyou,
Will you kindly present to the President my re-
quest that he secure the appointment of my brother, Mr. Jesse L. Car- -
michael, to the position of a special agent in the general land office.
He and I work together, representing in Washington several western news-
papers. Under the doctor's orders he must spend the coming winter in the
wests I ask this place for him that ne may have temporary occupation.
Hés general health is first class and he is up to the job.
Judge VanDevanter, Assistant Attorney General for
the Interior Department, knows my brother, also the requirements of the
position, and could give you any information as to his
character and competence. I am,
