M.R.B.
Action of the Board of Visitors in the matter of the investiga-
tion of the charge of insubordination preferred against Dr. John C.
Simpson by the Superintendent, Dr. White. Copied from the Minutes.
XXXXX
The Board have reached the conclusion, after a full considera-
tion of all the facts, that while the conduct of Dr. J. C. Simpson
with reference to the sending home of the patient Marquis was a se-
rious breach of discipline, the Board does not deem it a sufficient
cause for the removal from office of a physician who has been for
over twenty years a member of the medical staff of the Hospital, who
has rendered therein able and efficient service, during which noth-
ing has come to the knowledge of the Board reflecting on him in any
way until the charge of insubordination now before us was preferred.
It is manifest from the statements of the Superintendent and
Dr. Simpson that a state of feeling has for some time existed between
them which is detrimental to the interests of the Hospital, and pre-
sents a situation which should not be allowed to continue.
The Board have, therefore, come to the conclusion that, in view
of his long and meritorious service, Dr. John C. Simpson, Second As-
sistant Physician, be permitted to resign, his resignation to take
effect on the
day of
, 1904, until which day he shall be
granted leave of absence with pay, and he shall without delay give
up his residence at the Hospit al.
From the Minutes
of March 28, 1904.
