THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
March 28, 1905.
My dear Sir:
I have your letter of the 27th, and in reply
would say that the President is so busy at present
preparing to leave on his trip that he prefers to have
Bishop Derrick write him what it is he wishes to lay
before him. Any communication the Bishop may for-
ward I shall take ploasure in laying before the Presi-
dent.
I have communicated with Mr. Scott Smith, Secretary
to the Secretary of the Interior and he has promised
to place Mrs. Cheeks on the temporary roll of the
General Land Office at the first opportunity. Would
you mind calling on him in the matter?
Very truly yours,
Secretary to the President.
Rev. E. W. Lampton, D.D.
1541 14th Street, N.W.,
