If we had a national park in Missouri, our lads from
Jackson County would not have to be so far away from home.
I suspect the Lake of the Ozarks will become state or
national property sometime and justly so.
I had a response from the communication to Miss Perkins
only yesterday but she did not mention her attitude to-
ward the beautification of highways and the care of mar-
ginal lands in Missouri or Jackson County, particularly,
in which I am interested. It will be necessary to write
several letters, I expect, before results are obtained.
Today is board meeting day. We will send you a report as
soon as they are ready. I am now on my way to Lees Summit
where we are establishing a new office. Mr. Burroughs is
just in from Washington Township where he tells me he has
earned his magnificent salary by cutting the relief ex-
penditures as much as $500.00 by placing seventy families
on a self-sustaining basis. The report for March shows an
increase of 290% over the corresponding period of a year
ago.
The Civic Relief Commission has advised us that we must
cut our expenditures on city cases beginning May 1st to
$1100. This figure must include the overhead. The Commis-
sion will expend $400.00 on relief disbursed directly from
that office. The situation grown more and more abominable
as the income decreases and the needs mount. Sill I am
sure that God is in his Heaven and all is right with the
world--except the men. Hurrah for the women!
I know your vacation is doing you a world of good and
trust that Margaret comes home quite well again. Am sure
that the salt water is doing all that is expected of it
and hope she will be restored to health again.
Most sincerely,
Mrs. H. Brya
