President Truman will always be in our hearts and minds as the

he made these decisions wisely and honestly without succumbing
to pressures.
He was a giant of a man and we loved him.

**** A BACKWARD GLANCE ****
THE JOYOUS SEASON OF CHRISTMAS HAS PASSED AND WITH IT GOES OUR RECOLLECTION OF MERRY-
MENT, FEASTING, GIVING AND PRAISING. WE REJOICE KNOWING WHAT THE TRUE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS
MEANS TO US. GIVING so OTHERS NOT so FORTUNATE MAY JOIN IN CELEBRATING THE JOYS OF THE HOLI-
DAY SEASON. OUR GIFT TO THE MASONIC AND EASTERN STAR HOME WAS so GRACIOUSLY RECEIVED THAT
TO BE PART OF IT WARMS THE INNERMOST RECESSES OF THE HEART. THE GLOW WILL LAST LONG AFTER
CHRISTMAS AND I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THIS WONDERFUL FEELING WITH EACH OF YOU. WHEN WE ADOPT
SERVICE AS A WAY OF LIFE, WE REAP THE RICH BLESSINGS AND THE SELF-SATISFACTION WHICH COMES
WITH CONTENTMENT AND THE KNOWLEDGE THAT WHAT WE HAVE DONE AND WHAT WE ARE DOING is TO MAKE
OUR OWN LIVES RICHER AND MORE MEANINGFUL BY GIVING TO AND FOR OTHERS.
**** LOOKING FORWARD ****
EVERY NEW YEAR COMES TO US WITH A HOPE AND MEANS A NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL OF US. THE
MAIN THING TO REMEMBER IS THAT THE PAST YEAR IS GONE AND THE FAILURES THAT OCCURRED DURING
THOSE TWELVE MONTHS ARE GONE WITH IT. WE NOW HAVE A NEW LEASE ON LIFE TO SET OUR COURSE
WITH ENTHUSIASM AND DETERMINATION TO FACE THE FUTURE. THIS is ALSO THE SEASON FOR MAKING
RESOLUTIONS AND ONE OF THE BEST RESOLUTIONS WHICH YOU CAN MAKE is TO MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO
ATTEND THE MEETINGS OF OUR CLUB DURING THE COMING MONTHS. IF YOU DO, THEN I AM SURE THAT WE
WILL HAVE A HAPPY AND WORTHWILE YEAR.
**** ANNIVERSARY TRIBUTE TO CHARTER MEMBERS ****
THIS CLUB, ON ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR HAS MANY REASONS FOR PRIDE. IT IS PROUD OF ITS
BACKGROUND. IT is PROUD OF ITS MEMBERSHIP. IT IS PROUD OF ITS PAST OFFICERS, MANY OF WHOM
WE HOPE WILL BE WITH US THROUGHOUT THE YEAR BUT ABOVE ALL, IT is PROUD OF ITS CHARTER MEM-
BERS. THIS CLUB, HAD ITS INCEPTION IN 1948. A NUMBER OF MASONS, KNOWN TO EACH OTHER AS SUCH,
FELT THE NEED FOR THE OPPORTUNITY FOR MORE FREQUENT COMMUNION. THEY DECIDED THEY WERE
SUFFICIENT IN NUMBERS TO SEEK A CHARTER AND so THE STRUGGLE BEGAN, AND IT NEVER WOULD HAVE
BEEN WON UNLESS EVERYONE OF THOSE CHARTER MEMBERS HAD FELT IT HIS DUTY TO CARRY HIS SHARE
OF THE LOAD, UNLESS HE HAD BEEN HAPPY TO CARRY THAT SHARE OF THE LOAD. WHEN A BROTHER WAS
ABSENT FROM A MEETING, HE WAS MISSED. HE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABSENT EXCEPT FOR SOME
EMERGENCY. THE BRETHREN OF THOSE DAYS AVOIDED, so FAR AS POSSIBLE, HAVING ANY EXCUSE FOR
NOT PERFORMING THE DUTIES THEY FELT OBLIGATED TO PERFORM. THEREFORE ON THIS 25TH ANNIVER-
SARY, MAY WE DEDICATE OURSELVES TO CARRYING FORWARD THE WORK WHICH THOSE OF 25 YEARS AGO
so NOBLY BEGAN. LET US FIRMLY RESOLVE TO BE WORTHY OF THE HERITAGE THEY BEQUEATHED TO US.
**** THE BROKEN CIRCLE ****
WE ARE SADDENED TO LEARN OF THE PASSING OF BROTHER ROBERT B. LONG, ON NOVEMBER 26, 1972.

PRESIDENT HARRY S. TRUMAN
The National Jewish Welfare Board mourns the death of
former President Harry S. Truman.
Mr. Truman was a beloved leader and a great President.
He was a symbol of world leadership, a courageous statesman,
a warrior against tyranny, and a humanitarian concerned with
the welfare of all men,
Mr. Truman will be long remembered and revered for
placing his convictions behind United States support for
the creation of Israel. Mr. Truman was the first chief of
state to recognize and to provide economic and political
aid to Israel. Mr. Truman will be noted in the annals of
history as a courageous man of action who understood the
struggle for Jewish Statehood and responded with decisiveness.
The National Jewish Welfare Board conveys to Mrs. Truman
and her family its deepest and sincerest condolences.

Dear Family of President Truman;
The National JR. AMVETS associated with the National
Departments of AMVETS and AMVETS Auxiliary would like
to extend their sincere sympathy to the family of our
former President of the United States, Harry S. Truman.
Although President Truman lived many years before me,
we shared the same birthdate, May 8th. I am now 16
years old and I am serving in the office of National
President of JR. AMVETS. As a student and an AMERICAN
citizen I have always admired the principles and true
Americanism that was always exemplified as a fine quality
of President Truman. May he rest in peace and may God
Bless his fine family.

Dear Mrs. Truman:
I am writing this as the National Historian of the
National League of American Pen Women to extend the sympathy
of our members to you and your family because of the death
of President Truman, your husband.
We remember with gratitude your gracious ways when you
received over two hundred of us in the Red Room of the White
House and you served a beautiful tea in the State dining
room with the background of the Marine Band melodies. And
we admired you for the support you gave the President during
a trying time in history.
Pen Woman Helen L. Trueheart years ago visited the
Truman Library and President Truman and you in your home.
He autographed his books for Mrs. Trueheart. She is now
our National President.
It is also as the wife of a member of Battery D, 129th
Field Artillery, that I want to express my sympathy for the
loss of Captain Truman and friend. My husband and I attended
the Inaugural events on his invitation and the men never
cease to speak of the breakfast "Captain" gave for the
Battery at the beginning of his busy Inaugural day. They all
fairly adored this fine officer and man. Through the years
at the annual meetings of the Battery and in private talks
the President expressed great interest in them. In 1952 I
wrote a story about the inauguration and it is in a book
"The Honor of your Presence" which is in the Truman Library
as a reference book. He read it and seemed pleased with
the description of the inauguration.
Hermann passed on five years ago and so when I give
my sympathy to you and yours I am doing it with the full
understanding of how much the love of others can comfort
those who are left.
With deep admiration for you and Margaret and prayers
from all the Pen Women throughout America that courage and
faith will sustain you,
Respectfully yours,
(Mrs. Hermann Hollard P. Rosenberg. Poscufery

Dear Mrs. Truman:
I was an admirer of your husband, who hindsight is
recognized as one of our greatest and most pro-
ductive Presidents. My sympathy to you and Mar-
garet.
My brother, Alfred, was on the Presiden Yacht
and also at Camp David (the latter he just loved)
while Mr. Truman was in office. He always thought
Margaret so very pretty, and defended any adverse
remarks from the Press. In fact, he fell in love
with that mountaineous area and married a local
girl and now lives in Emittsburg, Maryland.
Your simple funeral was in keeping with President
Truman's good judgement; and the burial at the library
also a wise decision.
May you adjust quickly with the love and friendships
of your quaint little town.
Sincerely yours,

You cannot say, you must not say
That he is dead. He is just away!
With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand
He has wandered into an unknown land
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be, since he lingers there
So think of him faring on, as dear
In the love of There as the love of Here,
Think of him still as the same, and say
He is not dead, he is just away.

A NUMBER OF MASONS, KNOWN TO EACH OTHER AS SUCH,\nFELT THE NEED FOR THE OPPORTUNITY FOR MORE FREQUENT COMMUNION. THEY DECIDED THEY WERE\nSUFFICIENT IN NUMBERS TO SEEK A CHARTER AND so THE STRUGGLE BEGAN, AND IT NEVER WOULD HAVE\nBEEN WON UNLESS EVERYONE OF THOSE CHARTER MEMBERS HAD FELT IT HIS DUTY TO CARRY HIS SHARE\nOF THE LOAD, UNLESS HE HAD BEEN HAPPY TO CARRY THAT SHARE OF THE LOAD. THEREFORE ON THIS 25TH ANNIVER-\nSARY, MAY WE DEDICATE OURSELVES TO CARRYING FORWARD THE WORK WHICH THOSE OF 25 YEARS AGO\nso NOBLY BEGAN. And\nwe admired you for the support you gave the President during\na trying time in history.\nPen Woman Helen L. She is now\nour National President.\nIt is also as the wife of a member of Battery D, 129th\nField Artillery, that I want to express my sympathy for the\nloss of Captain Truman and friend. My husband and I attended\nthe Inaugural events on his invitation and the men never\ncease to speak of the breakfast \"Captain\" gave for the\nBattery at the beginning of his busy Inaugural day. They all\nfairly adored this fine officer and man. Through the years\nat the annual meetings of the Battery and in private talks\nthe President expressed great interest in them. In 1952 I\nwrote a story about the inauguration and it is in a book\n\"The Honor of your Presence\" which is in the Truman Library\nas a reference book. He read it and seemed pleased with\nthe description of the inauguration.\nHermann passed on five years ago and so when I give\nmy sympathy to you and yours I am doing it with the full\nunderstanding of how much the love of others can comfort\nthose who are left.\nWith deep admiration for you and Margaret and prayers\nfrom all the Pen Women throughout America that courage and\nfaith will sustain you,\nRespectfully yours,\n(Mrs. Hermann Hollard P.
