I kehi the Cute Cartoon you hore probably seen if in You are setting reside a ring with your Laftied a box. are hats belonging to warrels so I know if she was here. she did not want too much fuss made over her Ike Lafe Season I am enclosing a cartoon, which I know will get a D laugh out of you - everyone is wondering what HST is going to do. Of course the Dems do not feel they can win without him, but for his own sake, I think he should take some rest - he and Mrs. Truman enjoy themselves for a while. Myra, I do not see how he has been able to work early and late during the past seven years, and take all of the hard knocks required during a world crisis - he has had nothing but grief trying to end a war and at the same time protect this country, but I think one of the hardest things he has had to contend with, is that some of his men in high positions have not measured up to our President's expectations - how can one man do everything . As you and I talked over before, there are many men in the government service in various branches of the government who do very little work ( couple of hours a day), but draw large salaries, and use up the budget, and in many instances workers in the lower grades have the work to do, and that is where ECONOMY is practiced. Too many cooks spoil the broth, too many minor executives ( who do not think they are supposed to work) just sitting around. Our Internal Revenue Service ( Alcohol Tax Unit a branch of it) is certainly in a mess, and Pres Truman has had to fire many of them throughout the country, and he is recommend- ing some changes which as yet have not been worked out. I am enclosing copy of a teletype this office received from John B. Dunlap, our new Commissioner of Internal Revenue in Washington. Of course changes are necessary, but I hate to see a complete reorganiza tion, because some of us do not know if we will have a job or not, since during a reorganization
