GEORGE HARRISON SANFORD KING 1301 PRINCE EDWARD STREET FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA 1 - 24 - 52 Dear Miss Noland, I have your letter of recent date and glad to hear from you. I was sorry to learn however that your sister was confined to the hospital at Christmas time and I hope now well on the way to recovery. I hope you ladies may come east this spring when Virginia is so beauti- ful, and so many of the private gardens are open. I wonder if President Truman could not get Mr. Churchill to have some of his historians and genealogists see if they cannot find something of the ancestry of Captain Alexander Doniphan (circa 1653-1717) in Great Britian? Perhaps but a letter from Mr. Churchill directed to the proper party in that quarter would bring about some results. I suggest Captain Doniphan because he is the only ancestor we have any definite information on before he came to these shores and it seems to me this is quite a definite clue. I am placing the information known concerning him on a separate sheet and you can do as you think best. Like you I had a Christmas note from Mr. Miller. He seems certain the Truman family originated in Virginia on the James, but has not gotten to the salient records as yet. Unfortunately these are located at a considerable distance from me, or I would be in a better position to assist in the matter. With every good wish for '52, Cordially yours, Miss Mary Ethel Noland, Independence, Missouri.
