P.M. 3-4-40 Dear Bess: Just a note to thank you for the pretty dress you all sent Marian and to tell you I am returning it to-morrow so that you can exchange it for a size 5. Why dont you just bring it when you come, no use paying to have it sent. The dress Natalie and Frank gave her is a five and your Mother and I thought it none too big on her it is of course lawfully long but as you well know that is something easily adjusted. Marian seems to grow over night and is getting so broad thru the shoulders on what heaven only knows as she still eats next to nothing. I had her hair trimmed and shaped at Taylors last Thursday afternoon and she yelled bloody murder all of the time. Did your Mother write that while my family took care of the youngsters Friday after- noon(I had too go to a luncheon at Nancy Smith's) they had re- cordings made 06 David singing his various songs. Marian would not perform however they did get a record of her talking to my brother Frank. It was all a surprise to me and you know I wouldn't take anything for them. Nancy and Bob want to sell their house that is quoting Nancy"if anyone will buy it, "and move back out south. She's now sporting a butler white coat and everything also a new Buick which Bob smashed up the other day to the tune of a $3000 repair bill. Wish you all could have been with us yesterday for the birthday dinner--i was lawfully nice of your Mother to have my family again and they really enjoyed it. We to ok some pictures hope they turn out good. How do you like the typing? Just discovered we're out of ink so this borrowed machine came in handy. It's none too good as it jumps every now and then and the ribbon's about gone We use it to type Specifications. do
