Source Description
President Richard Nixon wrote this handwritten letter to Bess W. Truman the day after he flew to Independence, Missouri to visit with Mrs. Truman and lay a wreath at the casket of former President Harry S. Truman, which is lying in state in the lobby of the Truman Library. In this letter, he writes about how grateful he is to President Truman for adding the balcony, called the "Truman Balcony" to the White House, as it makes it enjoyable to eat out on the balcony and take in the nice weather. He also invites Mrs. Truman to visit Washington DC and stay at the Blair House any time she wishes, or just for the memorial service honoring former President Truman in Washington, DC in January 1973.
