It would be premature to\ncomment at length upon the Council's consideration of\nthis problem, which has caused grave concern throughout\nthe world. The United States believes that a proper\nsettlement of the issues can be brought about, and\nearnestly hopes that from the Security Council's\nconsideration of the matter a means for accomplishing\nthis can be evolved.\"\nRevised Resolution\nIf asked whether the United States has drafted a new\nresolution or is urging the British to rewrite their original\ndraft along more conciliatory lines, 1t is recommended that\nyou reply along the following lines:\n\"We naturally are considering what action by the\nSecurity Council would be most beneficial under the\ncircumstances, and other members of the Council are\nnaturally doing the same. We have not as yet adopted\nany final views as to the course which the Council\nshould pursue.\"\nIf asked what this Government is doing at the present\ntime to bring about 8 resupption of negotiations between the\nparties, it is recommended that you reply along the following\nlines:\n\"As I have often said, the United States wants a\nsettlement between the parties and stands ready to be of\nany assistance that it can in bringing this about. At\nthe present time, however, the matter is before the\nSecurity Council and American efforts to find a solution\nmust be guided by what transpires there.\"\nMosadeq's\nX Great Britain"
