Minutes of Executive Committee Meeting Committee for the Marshall Plan December 18, 1947 Present: Robert P. Patterson, Chairman Allen W. Dulles Herbert H. Lehman Clark M. Eichelberger Frederick C. The meeting was called to order shortly after 2:30 o'clock by Judge Robert P. Patterson, Chairman, in the Empire Room, Biltmore Hotel. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Campaign Report: Mr. Oram reported that the Committee had received to date approximately $70,000, an increase of $6,500 since the previous meeting. It was announced that the Committee has had a letter from Eric Johnston, President of the Motion Picture Association of America, recommending that a Committee be organized in Southern California with the suggestion that Mr. Darryl Zanuck be asked to head such a Committee. Judge Patterson sta- ted Mr. Johnston also had been in touch with him only yesterday on the same matter. Mr. Ferguson recommended that a resolution to this effect be drawn up and sent to Mr. Zanuck, and the Committee directed that such a resolution be drafted expressing the Committee's desire to have Mr. Zanuck form such a Committee and that it be sent to him. At this point, Mr. Lehman reverted to the subject of contributions. He said that inasmuch as the guests left too quickly after the luncheon to- day, the contribution cards were not distributed properly. He felt that a letter with another contribution card should be sent to everyone who had attended the luncheon, and it was agreed that this would be done. Treasurer's Report: Mr. Ferguson reported that following Mr. Moore's suggestion, he had ar- ranged for the bonding of everyone in the offices in New York and Washington. Committee Statement on the Essentials of a Recovery Program: Mr. Stein presented the draft of a statement to be issued after the Pres- ident's message to Congress.
