DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY
OFFICE OF THE QUARTERMASTER GENERAL
WASHINGTON 25, D.C.
1
IN REPLY REFER TO
STATES OF
QMGMF 293
Kozlowski, Stephen F.
9 May 1951
SN RA 11 177 975
Mrs. Kay Kozlowski
100 Hawthorne Street
Chelsea, Massachusetts
Dear Mrs. Kozlowski:
Reference is made to letter from The Adjutant General, Department of
the Army, informing you of the death of your son, the late Corporal Stephen
F. Kozlowski.
The Office of The Quartermaster General has received a report from
the Far East Command that remains tentatively identified as those of your
son were temporarily interred in the United Nations Military Cemetery near
Tanggok, Korea. This identification was made under combat conditions and
is subject to verification when military conditions permit.
It is the policy of the Department of the Army to comply with the
wishes of the next of kin in making final disposition of remains. However,
it is not possible at present to foretell the time when your son's remains
can be returned to the United States since their return is not only dependent
on existing military conditions but also on the verification of the battlefield
identification. Please be assured that at such time as additional information
is received, you will be notified without delay.
In order that you may receive future correspondence promptly, it is re-
quested that you keep this Office informed of any change in address. All
communications should include name, rank and serial number of decedent.
Sincerely yours,
JAMES B. CLEARWATER
Colonel, QMC
