I showed the Secretary the memoran-\ndum of June 30 reporting his conversation with the President, in\nwhich the President had designated Mr. Steelman to go over the\npapers left at the White House in connection with the loan. The Sec-\nretary thought he might have a chat with Mr. Steelman and I suggested\nthat we have our people look into the matter further before he took\nthe\nit up with Mr. Steelman. He suggested that he see/appropriate people\nin the Department about this matter fairly soon.\nI understand Mr. Brown is away until September 6.
