MEMORANDUM
The Secretary talked to Senator Seott Lucas at the
reception last evening. The Senator spoke of the 24 signatures
on the request for a report on the Attlee conversation and
also of Senator Ives' move regarding a demand for
Secretary Acheson's resignation. The Senator said that it
was apparent that the Republicans did not want unity at all.
He said he thought the time had come to take the gloves
off regarding General MacArthur.
The Secretary discouraged Senator Lucas from this
idea and said that it would be disastrous if we followed any
such course. Senator Lucas talked to Mr. Webb further about
this, following the reception.
I do not know any details of this conversation.
