Dear Dr. Kennedy:
Secretary Acheson has asked me to acknowledge for
him your letter of November 30, which was delivered to
him by Mr. Raymond Lee. He regrets that the pressure
of recent events has prevented his replying to you him-
self.
By this time you have had an opportunity, I know, to
read the communique which was issued at the conclusion
of the recent talks between President Truman and Prime
Minister Attlee. I believe that its reaffirmation of the
necessity for continued cooperation between the two Gov-
ernments in facing the problems confronting them has the
endorsement of most British, regardless of political af-
filiation.
Mr. Attlee came to the United States with the blessing
of both of the two major British political parties. You will
be interested to learn, if it has not already come to your
notice, that Mr. Churchill's attendance at the talks, sug-
gested in your letter, was a question also raised in
Parliament, whereupon Mr. Churchill himself interposed
to remark that Mr. Attlee had his confidence in this mis-
-
sion.
Sincerely yours,
eg. to for + ml
