His Excellency Señor Don Luis Antonio Pehaherrera, newly
appointed Ambassador of Ecuador, ealled on me today to present
copies of his credentials and to request an appointment with the
President.
After the usual exchange of courtesies, the Ambassador em-
phasized two points which he described as of particular signifi-
cance on the occasion of his call, one, that he brought the
personal greetings of the Reuadoran President, His Excellency
Galo Plaza, and, two, that he wished to give me assurances of
the complete solidarity of Ecuador in supporting the United
States and the United Nations in these moments of great crisis.
I wished the Ambassador success in his mission and assured
him that I should at all times be glad to go into any questions
of particular interest between our two countries.
After some further general conversation, the Ambassador de-
parted.
