783 18 CONFIDENTIAL January 12, 1951. ARCHIVES 'NATIONAL AND RECORDS SERVICE" S/S The Secretary telephoned the folloving Senators today: 1. Senator Connally - to congratulate him on the speech he made yesterday. The Secretary got a wara response from Senator Connally in apprecia- tion of the call and in Senator Connally's feeling that the ball had started rolling. 2. Senator McFarland - to congratulate him on his speech and his leadership. The response here was also warm to the Secretary's eall and optimistic as to the way things vere going. 3. Benator Tobey - to say how delighted he was that he had been assigned to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
