The Secretary telephoned the folloving Senators
today:
1. Senator Connally - to congratulate him on
the speech he made yesterday. The Secretary got
a wara response from Senator Connally in apprecia-
tion of the call and in Senator Connally's feeling
that the ball had started rolling.
2. Senator McFarland - to congratulate him
on his speech and his leadership. The response here
was also warm to the Secretary's eall and optimistic
as to the way things vere going.
3. Benator Tobey - to say how delighted he
was that he had been assigned to the Senate Foreign
Relations Committee. The Senator apprecisted the
eall and said that he looked forward to his more
frequent contacts with the Secretary.
