Dear Alan:
Thank you very much for your letter of
April 13 supporting the President's policy with
respect to General MacArthur. I am sure you
realize that it was a difficult decision to make and
that it will be some time before the consequences
can be fully evaluated.
I am not surprised by the personal matter
you raise. While I know you and Lydia have had
an interesting experience, I am under no illusion
as to the wear and tear involved. This is just a
word to let you know that I am giving it careful
and close attention, and I'll write you soon again.
Alice joins me in love to you and Lydia.
Sincerely yours,
DEAN ACHESON
The Honorable
Alan G. Kirk,
American Ambassador,
Moscow.
