MEMORANDUM OF CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
Item 1. Iranian Situation.
The President had seen all of the telegrams connected
with the Iranian situation except the last one from Mr. Gifford
informing us that the British Cabinet had agreed to postpone
any statement on the situation for at least twenty-four hours.
The President was pleased by the developments and said
that he thought the Department had given Mr. Harriman excellent
backing.
We discussed a telegram from the President to
Mr. Harriman expressing his appreciation. The President
asks that such a telegram be prepared and submitted to
him today. Should this telegram also bear a reference to
Ambassador Grady?
