283 319 December 19, 1951 and ANLECTORDS C.S s/s Mr. Symington called the Secretary this morning and said he had just returned from a ten-day absence and he understood we had some apprehension with regard to the situation on Bolivian tin. He mentioned that he had had a letter from the President concerning the President's letter from the President of Chile. He said he would like very much to talk to the Secretary about the whole situation. He said if he were wrong in his stand, he wanted to do something about it. The Secretary has agreed to see him and we will probably set up the meeting for Thursday in the absence of any advice to the contrary from the Department. If there is anything over and above the material I have already received on this problem, could the prepared for the Secretary Mr. Symington mentioned that he was seeing the President on Friday and intimated he would talk to the President about this problem at that time.
