SECRET DEPARTMENT OF STATE Memorandum of Conversation 31 DATE: (Meeting at Pentagon) Jan. 24, 1952 SUBJECT: THOUSAN Meeting on Korea Proposed Meetings between Commanding Generals ARCHIVES 'NATIONAL SERVICE* RECORDS AND PARTICIPANTS: Secretary Acheson Mr. Nash Mr. Lovett General Bradley Mr. Harriman Mr. Foster COPIES TO: 1-1493 Mr. Lovett and General Bradley believe that a meeting with me, some of my colleagues and the JCS is urgently needed on Korea. They have asked General Ridgway to send some high officers here who may arrive about January 28. We should urgently prepare ourseives for a meeting to consider what steps to take in regard to the armistice, what steps to take if the armistice seems to be bogged down. They would like very much to have General Ridgway here for these discussions but that does not seem to be practical. They discussed with me the desirability of periodic meetings between all the commanding generals responsible to the JCS. The idea met with favor but it was thought advisable to postpone the first meeting for some months, perhaps putting out now a general statement saying that such periodic meetings would be held beginning say in May or June.
