These were disturiting both on account of of them
upon the possibility of estabilshing e stable government in
Greece and by reasom of their effect on the Army. I anid that
we had had similar reports through the Embassy at Athems
and that I had talled with Peurifoy, who believed
that we should ume our influence to bring about the inclusion of
General Papagos aloug with Mr. Veniseles in the Government,
and possibly now elections with the King using the pewer granted
him by the parliament to have elections consinued on a majority
voting aystem.
The President maid that he was glad we were siving this
matter close attention and asited that he be kept in toush with
it.
1 mestioned to the President the fact thet Ambassador
had seid to me that If he were empowered to use the possibulity
of a visit by the King and Queen to this country, # might be helpful
in obtainting the reselte indicated above. The President and that
#f we wished to develop this sdea further, he would be gind to Ma-
cuss ut, but did not committ himpeif in amy way etther for er
against the Adea.
