His Excellency Phot Sarasin, newly appointed Ambassador of
Thailand, called on me at 2:45 p.m. today to present copies of
his credentials and to request an appointment with the President.
After the usual exchange of courtesies, the Ambassador ex-
pressed his pleasure at being assigned to Washington. I mentioned
to the Ambassador the fact that he and I were both lawyers and
recalled his splendid work on matters affecting international law.
We also spoke of his mission with the United Nations in Korea.
I inquired about Prince Wan and the Ambassador told me that he
would be his country's representative at the United Nations.
After some further general conversation, the Ambassador de-
parted.
No matters of a political nature were discussed.
