MEMORANDUM OF CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT

Item 2. Reply from President Rhee.
ARCHIVES SERVICE* RECORDS NATIONAL AND
I left with the President the reply from Syngman Rhee
to President Truman's telegram and also copies of Pusan
telegrams giving President Rhee's public statements of June 2
and June 4. I said to the President that we did not believe that
the telegram called for any reply from him since he had already
instructed Muccio as to how he should represent the President's
views to Syngman Rhee. The President was pleased that, as
a result of his message, we had at least given President Rhee
some pause.
