MEMORANDUM OF TELEPHONE CONVERSATION
Participants:
Mr. Lovett, Secretary of Defense
Mr. Acheson
Mr. Lovett telephoned the Secretary this morning and said
that there was a statement in the Star or the Post yesterday
made by Admiral Fechteler in Honolulu which Mr. Lovett thought
was a good one. "It put the shrink on the whole business" and
made it clear the Fleet was carrying out ordinary maneuvers.
He also said he thought that Secretary of the Navy Kimbail was
under control.
