Columbia University in the Citp of Hem Dork Norfolk, Conn. SCHOOL OF LAW July 30, 1953 S. Dear Dean: = SERVICES I like in general your list of eight topics for the seminar. I agree that we can not spread too broadly without undue burden on you or the risk of getting too thin. I see no reason to rush as if we were on a time schedule and if later one meeting a month or even one every two months is more convenient for you, I don't think we should feel we are getting behind. As to the order of topics, I would suggest that #3 follow #5, or possibly #6. This would keep our minds on Europe for a stretch and one thing would fit into another more easily. I would add MEDO to #6 which would be a reason for having it follow the Nato and European topics. I am glad you included #8 and when you reach it I should think you would stress the frustration which that operation has involved. I would doubt however whether you would want to spend much time on the theory that is the first five lines of the para. I hope you would include the relation between the UN and the problem of leadership or coalition diplomacy, as well as psychological warfare. In connection with the Triple A bloc, you might want to dwell a bit on India but I would not add other separate topics on South and Southeast Asia. How about adding a brief (?) item on the whole problem of atomic energy-- domestic problems, the UK and others and the UN. Maybe you could include this under #8 with more than ordinary digression for the background. We are eager to see you here. Our family guests leave early next week and only Flip and Dotty would be here so there is lots of room and a light will be burning at the end of our peaceful lane, too. As ever, Chil Jung
