Dear Mr. Acheson,
I find myself with an enomous
sense of apperication which, at the risk of
sentimentality I must express. It isn't only
that I appreciate the opportunity of participating
in your deliberations this year, though god knows
I do. And it isn't only that you and your
colliagues were so gracious to me, which indeed
you were. all of this I appreciate more than
I can say. But even more I am grateful
for the first-hand knowledge that much fine
people held office - competent, yes - imaginative
and understanding yes - but also aware of
their responsibilities, conscious of their limitations,
capable of laughing at themselves -in short,
men of good will. This is the kind of
knowledge one must experience to have,
and for it, many thanks.
Sincerely,
Jun Rosenan
