THE INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED STUDY PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR 28 February 1955 Dear Dean: Now that, at long last, we are sending you the last pages of the transcript of your seminars here, perhaps I should write you a note. I have read most, if not all, of the transcript as it has come through. I am thus aware of the fact that it is not in good shape. There are a good many names wrong, and sometimes there is garble; and in addition, of course, a lot of people like me talked when they should have held their tongues. Nevertheless, the impression I have is that these pages are a real mine of insight, of information, of wisdom, and of humor. I hope that you will not be appalled and discouraged by the present state of the transcript, and that you will find it possible to get it to such a point of cleanness that it can be useful to scholars in times to come. If, in any way, we can help you to do this--either we ourselves, or we as employers of assistants for you--we would like to do it, and would regard it as a proper rounding out of a large undertaking. 3. With every warm good wish, us SERVICES Robert Robert Oppenheimer Mr. Dean G. Acheson Covington and Burling Union Trust Building Washington 5, D. C.
