Had meeting with Sharett of Israel, Mr. Rusk being present in Senator Austin's ante-room at Waldorf. Lunch with Senator Austin, Trygve-Lie, and Evatt. Went to GA opening in afternoon Met with Stikker and Rusk in Senator Austin's apartment. Attended reception given by Senator Austin Left for Washington at 7:45. Arrived at Washington at 10:30. On Wednesday, April 6 Worked on German briefing with departmental group and Defense officials -- Webb, Berkner, Kennan, Murphy, Jessup, Vorhees, Goldthwaite Dorr Met with Bevin and Schuman on Germany at 11:00 More preparation Interview with Ambassador Griffis Met with Bevin and Schuman at 4:30 Last appointment at 7:30 On Thursday, April 7 Met with Senator McCarran and Cong. Rooney on Spain, Mr. Webb present part of time Preparatory work on Germany Talked with Paul Hoffman at 11 of clock 11:10 Met with Bevin and Schuman 1:00 Lunch with Foreign Service Association and spoke 3:00 Met with Bevin and Schuman 5:30 Went to Blair House where the President received the British and French Foreign Ministers, Ambassadors, Mr. Webb and me. 6:45 Meeting with Schuman and Bonnet and Bob Murphy
