I should think the whole discussions of the EDC have indicated that that
would not be possible.

Is there any other alternative beside these three? One, to say the
French are washed uo and you have got to rearrange your whole thing on
the assumption that they are just no good. Two, to persuade the British
to change their attitude and nove in and strengthen the French, or
