MacA told E that Pres. apparently hostile to him for
some unknown reason - "He felt that the Pres sld realiz
that if MacA does a poor job it will reflect on the
Pres. He said the SD was at acking him but that he
felt Acheson's attacks possibly came from the Pres as
a trial balloon. He said a lot of unfavorable press
had come from the reporters accredited to the navy out
here who did not know him." - MacA said he'd tried
during war to get reports on atrocities released, but
FDR and Curtin of Aus. had refused - reports now being
released, but still padded
SCAP said NYHT always unfriendly to him "for some
reason wh ch he never understood" - when E asked if
thought difficulties w/ SD due to his real rule over
J, MacA replied thought SD had difficulty accepting
Occ's suscesses in J - E. said found Gen. Gairdner
and
British very friendly, poss. out of fear of Russia
