Independence, Missouri
October 31, 1937.
Honorable Harry S. Truman,
Senator from Missouri,
Washington, D. C.
Honorable Sir:
My husband, Michael J. Tomashek, who died in June,
1935, was a mechanic, employed at the County Garage
at Independence, Missouri, up to the time of his
death. I feel sure that you will remember him, for
he was a staunch supporter of yours in every campaign
you entered for public-office.
I believe, that Mr. Tomashek, who served in the Spanish
American War and received a pension from the government,
was enlisted under an assumed name, because of the fact
that I received a letter from the War Department, in re-
ply to a query from myself, saying that they had no one
under the name of Michael Tomashek on their records; and
yet, he did receive pension checks, which checks he did
not permit me to see.
To my best knowledge, I believe that the postmaster at
Independence, Missouri, if he were permitted, could tell
under what name Mr. Tomashek received his pension checks.
If it is at all possible for you to get this information
for me, I would appreciate it very much and it would help
me to a great extent.
Yours very truly,
Mrs. Michael J. Tomashek
