July 18, 1955 Dear Abe: I find it necessary to call off the whole trip this fall and postpone it until next spring. I want Margaret and Mrs. Truman to be with me when I make the trip - particularly the trip to Israel. Mrs. Truman has found it necessary to have an immense amount of dental work done this fall and I am sure she would not have all the work completed in time to go with me. Margaret is sailing on the 5th of August for a month's stay in Europe. I have written to Lord Halifax and suggested to him that the whole trip be postponed until next spring. If we can make arrangements so I could leave New York and go directly to Israel - then make the tour around the countries I have talked with you about in a leisurely manner - and finally wind up in England sometime in June at the time the Oxford University would want to give me the Degree, I would not be rushed and it would be much more satisfactory for all con- cerned. I find that I can't take it as well as I have been able to in the past. This trip to Chicago almost completely put me to bed but I am all right physically now. I am sending a copy of this letter to Eddie and I will talk with him probably at lunch today. I know this will be a much more satisfactory arrangement for all concerned. I simply can't make it this fall. Sincerely yours, HSA 'NATIONAL ARCHIVES AND RECORDS LIBRARY SERVICE" DOVERNMENT Mr. Abraham Feinberg 500 Fifth Avenue New York 36, New York CC X Eddie Jacobson
