Dr. Kingsley: We are happy in the Federal Security Agency about Dr.
McGrath's appointment. We scoured the educational profession and believe
that we came up with the best man to recommend to the President.
Dr. McGrath: I may say that I am glad to meet members of the press and
will look forward to future cordial relations.
Question: Do you favor establishment of a Board of Education as proposed
by the National Educ tion Association?
Dr. McGrath: I think that is one type of help the Office can get from
people outside of the Office. I would favor a number of ad hoc. committees
that would deal with various problems in education, called by the Office to
'deal with each problem specifically. For example, if we had & problem
in Business Eduction, we could bring in business men and others in
releted fields to advise us on that problem. Afterwards the committee
would probably disappear for awhile. The Office should take advantage
of such counsel from others.
Cuestion: Your predecessor, Dr. Studebaker, complained of Federal
censorship. Do you have anything to say about that?
Dr. McGrath: Anyone who works in a public agency must deal with this
problem. 1 have worked in other government positions and have
produced from 40 to 50 manuscripts and have never found the examination
