Announcer:
Your Senator from Connecticut: Station WTIC
presents another in a series of broadcasts in which--
on Thursday evenings at this time--Connecticut's two
United States Senators, William Benton and Brien
McMahon report alternately on matters of interest to
their constituents. Tonight Station WTIC presents,
Senator Benton in a discussion recorded especially
for this station. Senator Benton will have as his
guest Dr. Earl J. McGrath, United States Commissioner
of Education. And now, Senator Benton.
Benton:
Thank you, Bob Coar, and good evening friends
and neighbors in Connecticut. For the past three
weeks==off and on--the Senate has been debating what
is called the Tidelands Oil bill. One of the pecu-
liarities of the Senate is that any number of subjects
can be under discussion simultaneously. Thus, while
we've been debating Tidelands Oil, we've also argued--
and argued to a decision--the reorganization of the
Internal Revenue Bureau=-our tax collecting agency--
and the Japanese Peace Treaty, among other subjects.
Those of you who heard my last broadcast on WTIC know
By Earl James McGrath, U.S. Commissioner of Education, Federal
Security Agency, Washington, D.C., with Senator William Benton
on March 20, 1952, to be used over Station WTIC on March 27, 1952.
