Tnose who have-heard the word's of Voice of Democracy contestants
i. previous years are convinced, I believe, that our young people
understand the meani.g) of democracy and are disposed to defend its values
against all attacks.
Their statements have borne eloquent testimony to the fact that
in our schools young people learn that deinocracy is as democracy does;
that it is in process of continuous improvenent.
The United States orfice of Education continues to endorse the
Joice of Democracy contest which stimulates so many millions oi our
Nation's young people to study and to give expression to their under-
standing of the meaning of freedom, democracy, brotherhood, and the
spiritual values that have made America great.
*By Earl James McGrath, U. S. Commissioner of Education, Federal
Security Agency, Washington, D. C., July 1952, endorsing the Voice of
Democracy Contest.
