STATEMENT * There are many pressing problems in American education today. Many of them--the critical need for hundreds of thousands of additional classrooms, the grave shortage of qualified teachers, the necessity for providing livable salaries for educational employees--will be with us for a long time. But urgent as these problems are, none call for attention more imperatively than those posed in answer to the questions "What kind of school is my child attending? Is my youngster getting a good educa- tion? What can I do to help?" Every parent can and should ask these questions. * By Earl J. McGrath, U. S. Commissioner of Education, Federal Security Agency, Washington, D. C., introducing article, "How To Judge Your School" by Judith Crist, published in Redbook, 1952.
