SECRETARYS OFFICE Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge Number 26 RALPH S.LATSHAW E.J. BECKER EXALTED RULER SECRETARY KANSAS CITY, MO. March 22, 1921. Mr. Harry Truman, 104 W. 12th St., City. Dear Mr. Truman:- Herewith please find bill for dinner given to"Battery D", on the night of March 17th - 100 plates guaranteed at $1.50 per plate - $150.00. The following articles were broken and found missing: 2/3 Doz. Coffee Cups at 3.37 - $2.24 3/4 " Saucers " 2.70 - 2.03 10/12 If Tumblers " 1.35 - 1.13 1/2 " Napkins 11 3.00 - 1.50 1/2 11 Artificial Flowers " W 9.00 - 4.50 S Extra Cleaning - 4.00 1 Doz. Punch Cups - 2.40 $17.80 Dinner - 150.00 Total - $167.80 The reason for this breakage was due to some of the members of the party who seemed to have taken it for granted that they could stage an"up-roarious"time. Three members of your com- pany went into our kitchen and threw dishes and glass-ware at the colored help working therein. The amount of $4.00 charged for ex- tra cleaning is what we had to pay for extra help in cleaning up a lot of muss made by the members outside of the dining room. We regret very much the occurance of that evening, and realize that the officers were not responsible for the acts of the individuals. Fraternally yours, EA EA Backen Secretary. EJB:HR
