Headquarters 139th Infantry, American E. F., 3rd November, 1918. 421 SECRET MEMORANDUM: To c. o. 2nd Bn. 1. A detachment of two officers and 100 picked men will leave our lines near T 55.96 at about 17 h and proceed Northeast into the town of DIEPPE then East Northeast into the enemy lines until contact with the enemy is gained. Prisoners and identification of the enemy must be obtained. DIEPPE will be mopped up by this patrol before proceeding further into the eneny lines. 2. All front line out posts will be notified of this raid. 3. The pass word for the night is "MARTIN". 4. This patrol to re turn to our lines by 6:30 h 4th Nov. By Order of Lieut. Col.
