    "ocrText": "515\nHeedquerters 55th Division\nAmerican Expeditionary Forces\nSERVICE'^\n16th November 1918.\nMEMORANDUM :\n1. For the information end guidance of officers and enlisted\nmen the following extract is published. It should be studied in\nOfficers and Non-commissioned Officers Schools until it is thorough-\nly understood in all its details.\n2. Extract from \"Conditions of Armistice with Germany:\nClauses relating to Western Front.\"\nI. Cessation of operations by land and in air six hours after\nthe Signature of armistice.\nII. Immediato evacuation of the invaded countries of Belgium,\nFrence, llsace-Lorraine and Luxemburg, so orderod as to be completed\nwi thin fourteen days from Signature of armistice. German troops.\nwhich have not left the above-mentioned territories within the\nperiod fixed will beconre prisoners of war. Occupation by Allied\nand United States forces jointly will keep pace with evacuation in\nthese areas. All movements of evacuation end occupation will be\nregulated in accordance with A note ( Annexure I)\nIII. Repatriatisn, beginning at once, to be completed within 14\ndays. of all inhabitants of the countries above enumerated (includ-\ning hostages and persons under triel or convicted).\nIV. Surrender in good condition by the German armies of the\nfollowing equipment:-\n5,000 guns (2,500 heavy, 2,500 field),\n30,000 machine-guns,\n3,000 ninenwerfer\n2,000 aeroplanes (fighters and bombers, firstly D 71 s\nand night bombing machines)\nThe above to be delivered in situ to the Allied and United States\ntroops in accordance with the detailed condition laid down in the\nNote. (Annexure I.)\nV. Evacuation by the German armies of the conntries on the\nloft benk of the Rhine. These countries on the left bank ef the\nRhine shall be administered by the local authorities under control\nof the Allied and United States armies of occupation. The occupation\nof these territories will bo carried out by the Allied and United\nS testes garrisons holding the principal crossings of the Rhine\n(Mayence, Coblenz, Cologne), together with bridgeheads at these\npoints of a 30 kilometer radi us, on the right bank, and by garrisons\nSimilarly holding the stretegic points of the regions.\nA neutral zone shall be set up on the right bank of the Rhine\nbetween the river and a zone drawn 10 kilometers distant, starting\nfrom the Dutch frontier.\nIn the case of inhabitants no person shall be prosecuted for\nhaving taken part in any military measures previous to the signing\nof the amistice.\nNo measure of 8. general or official character shall be taken\nwhich would have as a consequence the depreciation of industrial\nestablishments or a redustion of their personnel. The evacuation\nby the enemy of the Rhinelands shall be so ordered as to be com-\npleted within a further period of 16 days, in all 31 days efter the\n(over)"
