III. SANITARY CONDITIONS:
The following from Houdquertors Socond Army, Gonoral Orlors, NT. I,
January 3, 1919, is quoted for the information and Guidance of all consernod:
"l. It is apparent that the typhoid rate is increasing duo mainiy
to carclessnoss in simplo sanitary matters. In ordor to improve und onforco
sanitary disciplino, and provont 311 umecessory increase of sicknoss in the
Second Arny, Commonding Officers of units vill toico the following procautions:
(a) DAILY insmoct tho kitchions of their units and onforco cloan-
linoss in the storage, handling sorving of food,
(b) Enforco the wasling of hands in soap and wotor by the kitchon
personnel before hondling food
(c) Daily inspoct latrines and assuro thonselves thict thoso are as
cloan and as sanitary as possiblo under provailin; local conditions.
(a) Assuro thomselves that the chlorination of wator is boing pro-
perly carried out and is being periolically controlled by compotent attendents.
(e) Keop thomsloves informed thru the Medical Officors concorhin
the conditions of thoir commends in rogard to the existonce of intestinol dissuyo
ancos or diorrheas and will soo thet any undue provalence of such disturbances :
reported.
(f) Commanding Officors of all organizations will imodictoly ins
ell Service Rocords. All mon whoso records do not show that the typhoid and
typhoid immunization has been alministered will be inmediatoly roported to the ro-
sponsible Medical Officor who will administer it.
