The following is published for the information of this command: "GENERAL headQuarters AMERICAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCES PERSONNEL DIVISION, Decorations Section. France, 15 Jannary '19. BY COURIER From: The Adjutant General, American E. F., To: Commanding General, 35th Division. Subject: Decorations. the ARCHIVES INATIONAL RECORDS SERVICE** AND 1. The President, in the name of Congress, under date of 11 January 1919, has awarded the Medal of Honor to Private Nels Wold, (AS No. 2140528) (Decrdd, Company I, 138th Iofantry, for the following act of conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity, above and beyond the call of duty, in actior with the enemy near Cheppy, France, 26 September 1938. Private Woldd rendered most valient service in aiding the advance of his company, which had been held up by machine gun nests, advancing, with one other soldier, and silencing the guns, bringing with him upon his return, 11 prisoners. I ter the same day he jumped from a trench and rescued a comrade who was about to be shot by a Gorman officer, killing the officer during the exploit. His actions were entirely voluntary, and it was while attempting to rush a fifth machine gun nest that he was killed. The advance of his company was mainly due to his great courage and devotion to duty. Next of Kin: Mrs. Christ Hara, Sistor, Kelly Lake, Minn. 2.
