Headquarters 35th Division American Expeditionary Forces 22nd January 1919. 837 BULLETIN ) ) No. 19 ) I. WEEKLY REPORTS OF EQUIPMENT. Owing to the fact that many Supply Officers have mis- interpreted the meaning of paragraph II, Bulletin No. 16, Januar 18th, 1919, Headquarters 35th Division, the following instructi with reference to shortage of Ordnance equipment will be observed. "Regimental and Separate Organization Supply Officers will continue to send in the weekly reports to the Division Ordnance Officer but they will not send in reports of shortages to the 9th Corps." II. INSTRUMENTATION OF BANDS. 1. The following letter from the Adjutant General, G.H.Q., American E.F., January 17, 1919, is published for the information and guidance of all concerned: "l. General Orders No. 183, October 21, 1918, these Headquarters, define the instrumentation of regimontal bands as follows: C flute 1 D-b flute (2 flutes for one man) 1 Piccolo 1 Oboes 2 E-b clarionet TRUMAN 1 NATIONAL B-b clarinnets 10 ARCHIVES AND LIBRARY E-b alto clarionets RECORDS 2 SERVICE" B--b Bass clarionets 2 GOVERNMENT Bassoons 2 E-b alto saxophone 1 B-b tenor saxophone 1 E-b beritone saxophone 1 French horns (altos for mounted bands) 4 B-b trumpets 4 B-b cornets 2 B-b beritone (small diameter) 1 Euphonium (4 valves) 1 B-b trombones (valaves or slide) 3 F trombone ( valve or slide) 1 E-b basses (4 valves) 2 BB-b basses (belicon) 2 Contra-bass sarrusophone 1 Share drum (and triangle) 1 Bass darum and symbals 1 (over) Total instrumentation, 47 as authorized. The following additional instruments will be issued in lieu of bassoons and oboes, which are not suitable for marching purposes: Soprano saxophones (in lieu of oboes) 2 Snare drum (in lieu of bassoons) 1 "2. In view of the fact that many bands being short of certain instruments have certain others in excess of the regulati number, and in order to supply replacement for newly organized or incomplete bands, you are directed to supply all regimental comman ers with a copy of above instrumentation and to issue the necessar orders that all bandsmen in excess of prescribed instrumentation be sent at once with their instruments to the Musicians Replacement Depot, Gondrecourt, Meuse. (seave) 43. Duplicate lists of transfer will be sent to G-1, these Headquerters. By Command of General PERSHING: J. M. WOOLFOLK (Ad.Bul.#19,2nd Army, 1-21-19) Adjutent General." Regimental Commanders will submit to these Headquarters the names of bandsmen in excess of the prescribed instrumentation. If there be none such that fact will be reported. III.
