- 4 - 107th Division (third-class) 35th Austro-Hungarian Division 195th Division (second-class) 5th Landwehr Division (fourth-class) 88th Division (third-class) 31st Division (third-class) 123rd Division (third-cless) 255th Pivision (fourth-class (c) Comment on Enemy Units: 5th Guard Division - This division which appears to be in pose ition for counter attacking in the AIRE valley, is one of the best if not the very best of the seven Guard Divisions. However, it has arrived direct from two weeks of intermittent hard fighting in the LAON region, where it was last identified in line on September 17th. Accordingly it must be in a greatly weakened condition. This is the same division which was hastily put in line near BELLEU Wood in June, in the attempt to force American troops back. 5th Bavarian Reserve Division - This division which is reported as expected to arrive in support on the west bank of the MEUSE is a second-class division which has rested 61 days, after being exhaus- ted in line of the CAMBRAI front in July. It has rested in ALSACE, recently left there, and has been twice reported within 10 days as in the CAMBRAI-ST, QUENTIN region. 7th Reserve Division - This is a second-class division, recruited in Prussian Saxony, which has taken an active part as an attack division this year. It comes from the SOISSONS front, with only three weeks rest. Based on statements of prisoners captured today, it appears to be clear that the division is still in a weakened condition, and entered the line on the VERDUN front eight days ago in order to obtain rest and reconstitution in a quiet sector. (d) Situation of Enemy Reserves: To counter attack tomorrow the enemy is considered to have available, in addition to divisions identified in line today: 53rd Reserve Division - Presumed to be in ARGONNE, but not located since relieved in VARENNES sector on September 16th. 5th Guard Division - Localized in counter attack position in AIRE Valley, by captured order. 37th Division - Doubtful. It has not been identified since it was relieved in AVOCOURT sector September 12th, and circulation has indicated it may have gone to east of MEUSE. 115th Pivision - Relieved on west bank of MEUSE September 18th, but some elements are still in line and division must be in vicinity.
